ADDPIC project covers the 6 new ACP countries. The project started on 1st March 2004 and was to finish by 31 December 2007. A further request has been made to extend the project to 31 December 2008.
PPP and ADDPIC, though funded by two differenct financing agreements operate as one project aiming to contribute to sustainable agriculture in the region. It facilitates sustainable production and trade of agricultural produce by minimizing pests in a new age of free trade, global quarantine standards and increased tourism.
The threat posed by plant pests which reduce yields and quality of agricultural products remains a potentially damaging issue to regional economies, particularly to trade and food security.
PPP aims to facilitate quality food production and trade by minimizing pests. It provides technical advice, training, equipment, biocontrol, identification and information services.
The main justification for regional projects like PPP to small island countries typical of the Pacific stems from the potential economies of scale that can be achieved through such an approach to service delivery.
